NFL Modernizes Its Look

If you’ve noticed a surplus of munchies in the pantry, it’s probably because football season has started and the NFL is off to a bang. To commemorate the occasion, the National Football League has announced a new logo for the first time in 30 years. At first glance, there isn’t much to speak of… but the new mark boasts a more modern typeface and a more streamlined interpretation of the stars and ball. The new icon will no doubt scale better for overpriced merchandise and solidify the league visually for many more years to come.

You know what? That new typeface is awful. It’s too harsh a contrast against the curvature of the outline.

The old typeface had an organic softness about it, that complemented the outline.

That’s a really nice logo redesign (or refresh) most people, including myself will never notice unless it’s pointed out to them.

Wow I hadn’t even noticed. I love when companies subtly refine their existing mark, I think they did a great job here in cleaning it up.
